NFL Targets Roethlisberger For Religious Message

The National Football League is warning Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to remove personal messages from his playing shoes or face a $5,000 fine.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Roethlisberger has written the number 40 on the sides of his shoes this season, in honor of former Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman, who was killed in combat in Afghanistan this year.

Also, Roethlisberger's shoes display the letters "PFJ," which stand for "Play For Jesus." In a one-one-one interview with Channel 4 Action News anchor Sally Wiggin this week, Roethlisberger said he is open about his Christian faith.

NFL rules prohibit visible personal messages on players' uniforms.

Roethlisberger says he won't have a problem obeying the rules.
